Can Your Family Recipe WOW a Professional Chef?

Are your kitchen creations worthy of being sold in a 5 star restaurant? Over half of Americans think they have a family recipe worthy of such an honor!

In a survey conducted via OnePoll, 53% of Americans say they have a recipe up their sleeves that would impress a professional chef, and 46% think they themselves have what it takes to be a professional chef.

AdventurousCooksInfographic.jpg

It's no surprise to us that Americans have been honing their cooking skills in recent months. Lots of people are spending more time at home than ever, and we've all been feeling all the 2020-ness of this year. Family recipes that our mom and grandma made for us as kids are especially comforting during times of stress, so it makes sense that people are reconnecting with those recipes as adults.

And boy, do those recipes range in complexity! Some of the recipes reported were as simple as spaghetti or classic as meatloaf, with others as elaborate as bacon-wrapped elk loin (which, by the way, sounds unbelievable!). Some even included ingredients they reported hating as a kid, like asparagus, broccoli, and spinach. By the way, our CEO John hated brussels sprouts as a kid, and now it's one of his favorite foods!

But even with self-confidence in their cooking skills, people report that they don't venture out of their comfort zone too often. More than 75% said they cook the same things over and over, and 57% feel they're in a cooking rut, especially when it comes to breakfast. More than half said it just takes too much time and effort to try new recipes.

We totally get it. It's a lot of work to try new things, especially with so much change happening these days. Many of the significant lifestyle changes related to Covid-19 reported in the survey had to do with eating and cooking habits. People reported eating out less, cooking more at home, and focusing on eating healthier foods.

But because food at home has become such a big part of day to day life, we asked what one splurge worthy, gourmet grocery item would be. Can you guess what people said?

The answers ranged from everything from Velveeta cheese to caviar, but the most popular answer was some sort of seafood or meat, including special cuts of beef, shrimp, and high quality bacon. One respondent described good bacon as a "must have" for BLT sandwiches. We have to confess, we are partial to BLTs, especially made with our Jalapeno bacon.

Do you have a family recipe worthy of such high praise? Tell us about it in the comments below!

Naked Bacon on KSDK News

Our friend Lexi Linsenman recently joined the crew at KDSK News here in St. Louis as a guest on the Recipe of the Day: Home Edition segment!

Like many of us, she's been stuck home for months, trying to limit trips to the grocery store and working around grocery shortages. Despite all the barriers, she found a way to enjoy one of her favorite comfort foods, pizza!

Lexi wrote a wonderful recipe for delicious pizza dough, using just TWO ingredients that she had in her kitchen!

It's unbelievably easy to make the dough and it's super versatile, too! You can cook it in the oven, on the grill, or in cast iron, and you can top it with any of your favorite pizza toppings.

One of Lexi's favorite pizza toppings? Naked Bacon, of course! She made her pizza with homemade tomato sauce, goat cheese, Original Naked Bacon, and fresh herbs.

Watch the full segment, and get the pizza dough recipe along with many other delicious, healthy recipes on our recipes page!

CEO Honored in Top 10 Entrepreneur Stories of 2019

John Kreilich's Entrepreneur Story

When you think about an entrepreneur, you probably think of someone who thinks outside the box, who pushes boundaries, who innovates, and who challenges the status quo. That precisely describes Naked Bacon Founder & CEO John Kreilich. As part of their Entrepreneur Story series, MO SourceLink recently shared the story of John with their readers.

John says, "I wanted to make bacon the way it's meant to be—without nitrates, phosphates and other chemicals."

But that wasn't necessarily an easy task. Some grocery store buyers didn't understand the value of healthier, clean bacon. His challenge was not just to create a higher quality product than any other that existed, but also to change people's beliefs about the demand for a better product on the market. You can read the full story here.

MOSourceLink rounded up their list of Top Entrepreneur Stories from 2019, and their story on Naked Bacon CEO John Kreilich was featured again.

Congratulations to John, and thank you for sharing your story and inspiring other people to pursue their entrepreneurial goals!

You can learn more about Naked Bacon's story and check out the full line of bacon and sausages made without sugar or nitrates on the Shop Page .

Naked Bacon featured on KDSK Recipe of the Day

Lexi Linsenman recently joined the morning crew at KDSK St. Louis to share a healthy, Whole30 compliant on the Recipe of the Day segment! Her simple and delicious Sweet & Savory Slaw recipe is made with wholesome, healthy ingredients like chicken, apples, cabbage, carrots, pistachios, and of course, Naked Bacon !

"Have you ever heard of bacon on a diet? This bacon is quality... Naked Bacon is a local company here in St. Louis. It has no nitrates, no sulphates, and no added sugars," says Lexi.

You might be wondering what it means for the dish to be Whole30 compliant. In the most basic terms, it means it doesn't contain sugar, artificial additives, dairy, grains, or legumes.

Those following the Whole30 eliminate those food groups for a time to cut down on inflammation and figure out how your body responds to certain food groups. Says Lexi, "You're getting down to the basics of good, whole nutrition."

And that's what Naked Bacon is all about. Our bacon is made with only a handful of simple, whole ingredients.

The only ingredients in Naked Bacon? Pork, Water, Sea Salt & Spices. That's it!

Best of all, Naked Bacon is 100% Whole30 Approved!

What does that mean? Not only do the product ingredients meet the restrictions of the Whole30 diet, but our company meets the high standards and shares the same values of the Whole30 brand. Naked Bacon proudly has the official stamp of approval from the Whole30 team!

Watch Lexi's recipe come to life from start to finish in the full segment here:

The full Sweet & Savory Slaw recipe can be found on our Recipes Page and our Whole30 Approved bacon can be found on our Shop Page.

The Truth About Nitrates: Naked Bacon on Dr. Oz!

On The Dr. Oz Show titled, "The Truth About Nitrate-Free Bacon," Dr. Oz discussed the problem with nitrates, a common additive to most bacon and known carcinogenic (cancer causing agent). If you're a bacon-lover, you'd be right to be very concerned! But do you have to give up bacon for good? Dr. Oz says no! Because a truly nitrate-free bacon, Naked Bacon , is on the market.

Order the ONLY 100% natural, nitrate-free and sugar-free bacon by clicking here: SHOP NAKED BACON

Dr.+Oz+checks+out+truly+nitrate+free+bacon,+Naked+Bacon.png

Nitrates are carcinogenic, meaning they're known to cause cancer. So why do big bacon companies use nitrates?

Investigative journalist Mark Schatzker answered this question, saying, "Time is money. This is one of the reasons the industry loves nitrates - it speeds things up. It also gives it that nice pink color, it also extends your shelf life. So it basically makes life easy."

But Naked Bacon doesn't use any shortcuts when we produce our bacon, especially not one that puts our customers' health at risk!

Mark went on to look at some uncured bacon option that use more naturally occurring nitrates, those found in celery. He said, "When you add nitrates to meat, it forms compounds called N-nitroso compounds, and those are the suspects. If you're using nitrates in celery, or chemical nitrates, it's kind of the same thing.. so from a risk point of view, I don't think this is any different."

So don't be fooled by marketing tricks, bacon companies that use nitrates of any kind should be off the table (literally). Dr Oz responded with, "Don't go for this anymore, guys."

Naked Bacon doesn't use nitrates. Does it still taste good?

Yes! Naked Bacon is famous for its "you'vegottatrythis" taste. We were even voted Best Tasting Bacon by Food & Wine Magazine. To impart the most flavor possible, we use our family's 150-year old secret recipe to cure the bacon by hand for a minimum of seven days, then we slowly smoke it over only fruits and hardwoods. But don't just take our word for it.. read what Dr. Oz had to say when he tried it:

Dr. Oz introduced Naked Bacon by saying, "No one wants to give up their bacon... but there are healthier ways to enjoy it. We're going to start off with new truly nitrate free bacon that is entering the marketplace right now. These are dry cured over a week's time.. The taste to me is very similar. It's really good the way it is. I'd be okay with the switch by avoiding any potential risks. So no matter what anyone says, I think you ought to be trying out these new ideas."

"The crunchiness is there, the pull is really nice. I really like it!" added a guest.

Dr. Oz enjoys a taste of Naked Bacon!

Thank you, Dr. Oz, for helping to educate Americans about the truth when it comes to bacon, and for sharing that there is a truly nitrate-free bacon option available, Naked Bacon. Watch the full clip here.

Cover Feature: The Natural Food Exporter Magazine

Naked Bacon was featured on the cover of the Fall 2018 edition of The Natural Food Exporter Magazine, the leading international trade magazine for the U.S. food and agricultural exporter. The magazine, founded in 2006, concentrates on emerging markets and areas of the world that are aggressively looking to import from the United States. It serves 12,000+ international readers in over 50 countries and provides the most comprehensive information on new markets and commodity updates on important food products here at home.

Publisher James Molzen writes, "over $400 billion worth of organic and natural food items were sold last year, according to data from market research firm Nielsen. With our health and wellness issues now catching up to the world at large... it's safe to say that natural/healthy foods have a bright future in the country near you."

The Naked Bacon feature went on to say, "Knowing that our food choices each day affect our health; how we feel today, tomorrow, and in the future, bacon is usually one of those foods that doesn't fall into the healthy eating category, until now. Through proprietary traditional curing methods and secret ingredients, Naked Bacon is one of the few pork bacon companies with the nutritional characteristics of 44% less fat and 25% less sodium than your normal bacon, which has been approved by the USDA!"

It continued, "There is no question that bacon is a tasty treat and [Naked Bacon] is on a mission, not just for bacon lovers, but for everyone to have the chance to enjoy and include bacon as part of their healthy diet… not just a cheat-day indulgence."

At Naked Bacon, we know that our bacon can be part of a balanced, whole foods, and clean eating diet, and we're out to share that with the world!

Naked Bacon Featured on Fox2 News

Naked Bacon founder John Kreilich joined Reshaunda Thornton of Better Vessel Nutrition on Fox2 to talk about health, nutrition, and of course, bacon!

When asked about the inspiration behind Naked Bacon, John said, "Both of my grandparents had farms growing up… so I learned from a very young age how to raise animals naturally and how to cure and smoke meats. I had this idea.. there's not a healthier, better tasting bacon on the market, so we make our bacon without sugar, without nitrates, we have less fat and less sodium."

"It's naked for a reason. Nitrate are basically a preservative… it damages your cells and causes cancer, so that's what distinguishes his product from most products you see at the stores," added Reshaunda.

Together the friends cooked a few healthy recipes using Naked Links and Original Bacon. Watch the full video here!

Founder of Eat This, Not That! and Health and Wellness Contributor at the TODAY show David Zinczenko scoped out the newest, healthiest products to share with the TODAY show audience.

He wrote, "Forget putting lipstick on a pig, these pigs had a full makeover after a day at the spa (no mud baths though)! This bacon is clean, that's why we picked it. Naked Bacon uses all-natural ingredients and zero harmful additives, which means no nitrates, nitrites, phosphates or liquid smoke. They cook their bacon at a higher temperature with a longer smoking process to get more flavorful bacon with less fat. So it's a healthy alternative without sacrifice."
